Extra Keys is a small Windows utility that allows for the insertion of accented characters and special symbols that may not be available on your keyboard. It supports accented characters from various languages, including French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Scandinavian, Cyrillic, Greek, and more. This software is a great easy-to-use alternative to the Windows character map.

Extra Keys offers a choice of "key sets" that groups characters into regional and functional sets to keep the tool panel small, but still offering a wide variety of characters. When you click on a letter button, the character is typed directly into the selected application at the current cursor position, and is also copied to the clipboard. If typing directly into another program doesn't work, you can still insert the character using the Paste option.

The on-screen key panel has been developed to be as compact as possible, and a "more/less" button allows for quick display of an expanded panel with more punctuation and special symbols. The program is self-contained and lightweight, and the button panel is minimized to a system tray icon, making it always available in a single click.

Extra Keys is safe to use, as it synthesizes keystrokes exactly as if entered from the real keyboard. It does nothing else and does not interfere with the system in any other way. It is a portable application program with no special requirements.

Extra Keys is available as a free and unrestricted standalone tool, with no registration, no time limits, no ads or notifications. Additionally, an extended version, Extra Keys Pro, is also available for free, which offers additional configuration options and key sets, as well as the ability to output various character codes, making it useful for editing HTML or other source files.
